Description

Jude Weng is an episodic television and feature film director. She has directed over 100 episodes of television across some of your favorite shows like Shameless, Only Murders in the Building, Frasier, The Good Place, and more. Part Two of the course gives you the opportunity to direct, create a shot list and get feedback, and block portions of television episodes. Jude will lead a workshop leading you through on the day etiquette and expectations. Participants will have the opportunity to direct/observe Jude leading participants with professional actors through various types of single camera and multi-camera scenes. Jude uses her knowledge of the craft, participatory exercises, and insider knowledge of how to collaborate with your DP to show how your theatre training can be used on set.

ABOUT JUDE WENG

Jude Weng is an American director of TV & Film and a proud member of the Director’s Guild of America since 2016. Since joining, she’s directed nearly a hundred episodes of broadcast, premium cable or streaming series, and prides herself in being a “swiss army knife” directing multiple genres such as multi-cams (i.e. Frasier, The Connors, Call Me Kat, Two Broke Girls), single-cam half-hours (i.e. Ghosts, Twisted Metal, Only Murders In The Building, The Good Place, Party Down, Young Sheldon, Blackish, Fresh Off The Boat, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Crashing, Camping) and one-hour series (Quantum Leap, Shameless, iZombie, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and the upcoming Matlock starring Kathy Bates).

In 2023, Vanity Fair magazine selected her episode of Party Down as a “Perfect Episode”, and Rolling Stone Magazine highlighted her episode of Lucky Hank starring Bob Odenkirk as a Top 10 Episode of the year. Weng is the pilot director and EP of the upcoming Hulu/Onyx series How To Die Alone. In 2019, Weng became the first Asian-American woman ever to direct a half-hour broadcast network pilot created by Emmy Award winner Jessica Gao. Her debut feature, FINDING 'OHANA, dropped to critical and commercial success becoming one of Netflix's Top 10 Most Viewed Movies.

Weng is an alumna of the American Film Institute's Directing Workshop for Women, the ABC-Disney Directing Fellowship, the Warner Brothers Directing Program, and an HBO Writing Fellow. In addition to her directing assignments, Weng is proud to be a Directing Instructor and Mentor for the Paramount Directing Initiative, the NBC Directing Program, and the Warner Brothers Directing Workshop. Weng is currently developing an innovative pipeline program for the WB/BBC series WATERLOO ROAD where the Cohort will train on the set of the beloved series in Manchester, UK.

Weng is married, proud mother of two wonderful teenagers, and a trio of rescue animals.
